Aricha Grade 1

Tasting Notes: Raspberry | Vanilla | Cacao

Aricha is one of the washing stations in Yirgacheffe that supply Mebrahtu Aynalem's coffee exporting business Boledu.

The station and dry mill were founded by Boledu in partnership with Abyote Ageze and local farmers. "We are the 2nd generation of coffee growers and now traders in our families. We decided to build a natural coffee processing site in Aricha to be used by the smallholders living in the region. Roughly 1500 growers use the facility and we have 220 raised African beds for coffee drying," explains Mebrahtu.

Boledu means "source" in the local language, the coffee is sourced directly from the washing stations and not purchased from the Ethiopian Coffee Exchange (ECX). This ensures full transparency on pricing and also, thanks to the embedded agronomist and quality supervisors, consistently high quality coffee.

Boledu has forged strong bonds with local small holders. The education programme, funded by Boledu, where the farmers are trained in the latest coffee cultivation techniques and the optimum harvesting procedures most suited to speciality coffee cherries has enabled more growers than ever before to produce specialty graded coffee with the associated premium pricing contributing to rising the living standards of the local communities.

small batch & expertly roasted

At Lars & Margo, our coffee tastes great because our farmers genuinely care for their plants and equally their environment.

Following that we give the beans plenty of attention at the Lars & Margo Roastery—we roast by hand, keeping things light to medium so the real flavours in every bean can shine through. The end result? A seriously great cup of coffee.

We source our green beans, through various UK based green bean merchants, who partner with farmers around the entirety of the coffee belt. Lars & Margo then choose beans not just for their origin, varietal, process or tasting profile, but to ensure fair pay to farmers, fresh ideas are supported and there is a drive towards inclusivity and gender equality with further support going to local communities.

As a family business, we enjoy meeting new faces and share what we do. If you’re in Cornwall you wont have to travel far to find a local spot serving or stocking our freshly roasted beans, so a great cup of coffee is never far away.

We take our time with every batch—hand roasting the beans and packing them up with care.

Upcoming events

When they happen we’ll let you know but for now it’s gas on, let’s fire up ‘Genevieve’. Of course you are welcome to visit but we are a working environment with elements of dust and noise…maybe we could tempt you to a flat white or filter + some beans at the same time!

refill

Passing by or living locally on the Rame Peninsula? Why not swing by our Roastery? Simply, grab a bag or two or bring your own container and if you don’t have a grinder at home we will grind the beans for you there and then.
